How to Play

MYTHSEED is a storygame. It’s a spiritual successor of tabletop roleplaying games like Microscope, Dialect, The Quiet Year and Thousand Year Old Vampire.

Basically, it’s a procedural, collaborative system to develop mythologies from scratch. Just follow along, and don’t worry if you think that you’re doing it “wrong.” The whole thing is about the experience, the questioning, the exploration and the ritual act of playing.

Time, cultural memory, metaphor, objects, behavior, causality, ritual, all become clay that we’ll shape through our ceremony of play.

Let’s get started.

GAME LOOP

Each player takes turns rolling for a prompt, selecting or revisiting a Seed, and describing a cultural change, ritual moment, or reinterpretation. Each addition builds on what came before, drawing threads between Ages.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO PLAY

01. Seed Drift Index : A sheet of paper or notebook to track words, rituals, and symbols across Ages.

02. A Visual Record / Blank Map : To draw places, glyphs, and ideas.

03. Most importantly : An open mind for collaboration, participation, discussion and reflection. “Yes.. and” is the foundation. This is a game of wonder, not winning. There are no points to accumulate, only enchantment. Don’t worry about making something that is “right,” as sometimes the things you wouldn’t expect hold the most surprises. Don’t overthink it.

There are no wrong turns, only forgotten meanings waiting to echo forward.
